Replaced Components
The 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne is built with the following suspension components:
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne Shocks (x4)- shocks that contain an air bladder or magnets whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module..
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne Height Sensors (x4)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out.
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor (air suspension) to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags components in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively.
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne Solenoids (x4)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor.
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne Compressor- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive.
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage.
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle's correct ride height.
2006-2011 Buick Lucerne O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
Suspension Failure Signs
The 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne will display specific symptoms when the air suspension system is leaking or going bad. Early diagnosis of a failed suspension system is the key to avoiding total failure. Look for an inability of the Lucerne to reach and maintain the proper ride height. A sudden height variance between different sides of the Lucerne is a major red flag. This typically looks like one sagging end and one inflated end. This gives the illusion the Lucerne is “squatting down.” There might also be a shifting lean from one side to the other. A non-working air compressor points to a bad suspension, too. Lastly, look for an illuminated suspension warning light on the instrument cluster. The Lucerne owner should have any suspension issue fixed promptly.
OEM Replacement Cost
+ Shocks ($729/shock)
+ Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($210)
= TOTAL: Over $3,100 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
Aftermarket Replacement Cost
+ Rear Air Shocks ($799/pair)
+ Compressor ($180)
+ Dryer Assembly ($40.00)
= TOTAL: Over $3,400 (and that still doesn't include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The various components that make up the air suspension system on the 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne must always function in sync. When one part breaks, the system stops working properly. Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit eliminates this reliance forever. Made in America, the kit comes complete with two coilover strut assemblies, two coil springs, and two shocks for the rear of the Lucerne. Customers get the kit installed in as little as one hour per wheel, thanks to detailed instructions and online installation videos. The kit is a direct replacement solution, so no modifications are needed before installation. Customers get peace of mind with Strutmasters' 1-year warranty, which covers each part of the kit. Strutmasters' ASE certified experts are available to answer any questions or concerns. Lastly, the price of the kit is considerably less than the costs of dealership direct replacement and individual air part replacement.
