Replaced Components
The 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 is built with the following suspension components: 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 Air/Electronic/Magnetic Shocks (x2)- shocks that contain an air bladder or magnets whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module. 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 Coil Springs (x4)- Coil springs hold the vehicle up but be careful, they are rated for and designed to work with the rest of the suspension system, so when you change air shocks to passive shocks, then you will need a different rated coil spring that works well with the new type of shocks. 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 Shock Absorbers (x2)- a metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. Shock Absorber. 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 Compressor- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage. 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500 Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle's correct ride height.
Suspension Failure Signs
There are classic signs that indicate a failed or leaking air suspension system on the 2000-2013 Chevrolet Yukon 2500. Early identification of a bad suspension system is key to avoiding suspension total failure. The most noticeable sign is if the Yukon is unable to reach and maintain its proper ride height. Look for one sagging end and an opposite inflated end (typically rear/front). This gives the Yukon the appearance of squatting down in the rear. Look for a shifting lean from one side to the other. If left unchecked, these imbalances put extra strain on the compressor and dryer, causing them to wear out. If these issues aren't fixed promptly, a suspension warning light will illuminate on the dashboard. This is a sign that advanced suspension failure is present. An expensive repair or replacement is necessary to keep the Yukon on the road.
OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Rear Shocks ($396/shock) + Coil Spring ($86/coil spring) + Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($270) = TOTAL: Over $1,320 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
The Yukon's original air suspension system is comprised of assorted parts that must always function in sync. This dependency is expensive and inconvenient. Strutmasters' air to non-air suspension conversion kit is an affordable direct replacement alternative to dealership repair. This kit, manufactured in America, includes two rear shocks and two front shocks for the Yukon. It is installed easily, in about one hour per wheel, and comes with Strutmasters' 1-year warranty. Designed to save customers time and frustration, the kit comes with easy to follow installation instructions. If further assistance is needed, ASE certified technicians are available to answer your questions and installation videos are available to view online. The cost difference is considerable, too. In fact, the majority of our customers tell us the low price is what seals the deal when choosing between an air replacement and our non-air suspension conversion kit.
