Replaced Components
The 2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT is built with the following suspension components:
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Air/Magnetic Shocks (x2) - These electronically-controlled shocks use magnets or air bladders to smooth out the ride and help hold the vehicle up off of its wheels and the ground.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT 1500 Coil Springs (x2)- Your Escalade features coil springs which are designed to work with its original active suspension. Though they look similar to the coils in a passive suspension, they are not rated properly for a passive suspension and must be changed out for new ones if you wish to convert your vehicle.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Torsion Bar - Located at the front of your Escalade, this adjustable horizontal bar holds its front end up off of the ground.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Shock Absorbers (x2) - These metal cylinders are filled with a hydraulic fluid that helps it absorb the force of the wheels traveling over uneven road surfaces. They therefore control the comfort of the vehicle's ride and limit the wear and tear on the vehicle caused by this type of travel. T
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Air Lines - These plastic and rubber air lines carry the pressurized air which is generated by the compressor into the air springs. This allows the air springs to properly inflate and maintain the correct ride height.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Solenoids (x4) - These plastic components unite the electrical and mechanical components of the suspension with the suspension control module. This allows them to regulate the air pressure in each air spring next to which they are located. They will start to leak as they age, putting an extra workload on the compressor and other components.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Compressor - Your Escalade's air compressor is like all air compressors in that it uses mechanical force to generate pressurized air. It then pumps this air out through the air lines into the air springs. It is an expensive and difficult component to repair or replace, making it vital to identify problems with it as early as possible.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Dryer Assembly - In order to avoid damage caused by moisture in the system, your Escalade employs a dryer assembly which keeps the system free of moisture. Most mechanics recommend replacing this assembly whenever the compressor is replaced.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT Suspension Control Module - Acting as the 'brain' of the system, the suspension control module interprets signals sent by the height sensors and determines how much each air spring needs to be raised or lowered. It also monitors the system and will illuminate the suspension warning light if there are any major issues.
2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV & EXT - The o-rings in your Cadillac's air suspension system maintain proper seals where the air lines connect. This keeps the system clean and running efficiently. It is advisable to replace these whenever the system is serviced.
Suspension Failure Signs
There are a few early warning signs to look for when you suspect you may be having suspension issues with your Escalade. If you hear your compressor running too loudly or too long during each cycle, this is an indication that there is a problem somewhere and your compressor is attempting to compensate.
The easiest visible sign to recognize is a noticeable loss of ride height from three to five inches in the rear of the vehicle. This can also be a height differential between the driver and passenger sides of your Cadillac. When the suspension issues become severe enough, the suspension warning light will illuminate on your dash panel. Detecting suspension problems early on is the only way to save yourself from safety hazards and crippling expenses caused by a bad suspension.
OEM Replacement Cost
- Front Electronic Shocks ($318/Front Shocks) +
- Rear Air Shocks ($396/Rear Shocks) +
- Coil Spring ($86/Coil Spring) +
- Compressor and Dryer Assembly ($270)
- = TOTAL: Over $1,638 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
As you can see, air suspension and electronic suspension systems like the ones that come stock on your Cadillac Escalade are a complex network of parts. These parts are interdependent so if one component isn't working properly, the rest of the system will suffer. This conversion kit does away with the need for the complicated and expensive components and replaces them instead with our exclusive Premium Steel Coil Springs and passive shocks tuned just for your vehicle. Each kit also includes all the necessary mounting hardware and detailed instructions to allow the average DIYer to install their brand new product in as little as one hour per wheel.
If you get stuck, there are YouTube tutorials on the Strutmasters YouTube channel and our customers have access to our tech support line. Our customers tell us the low price, easy installation, and peace of mind is what sealed the deal when they were making the choice between an air vs. non-air suspension system. You have three choices when it comes to repairing your air suspension: repairing the air suspension system at the Cadillac dealership, installing aftermarket air suspension parts piece by piece, and getting rid of the air ride headache forever by installing a Strutmasters conversion suspension system for your Cadillac.
