Replaced Components
The 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) is built with the following suspension components: 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Electronic Shocks (x2)- shocks abosrbers whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module in order to ensure proper wheel-to-ground contact. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Air Springs (x4)- (models with air suspension only) commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time.. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Struts (x2)- a type of shock absorber; has metal tubing filled with gas-charged hydraulic fluid that is connected to the wheel of a vehicle in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle.; the air spring assembled on top of the strut is commonly referred to as an air strut. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Height Sensors (x4)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Solenoids (x4)- usually L-shaped, these plastic components connect the electrical connection and lines of suspension components to the suspension control module on vehicles with active suspension. The solenoid regulates the air pressure for each air spring. Solenoids start to leak as they wear out causing the vehicle to sag or to lean. This will cause the ride height sensor to send a signal to activate the compressor in an attempt to inflate the air suspension and level out the vehicle. This excessive work load will eventually lead to total failure of the compressor. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Compressor Assembly- creates/sends pressurized air to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicles correct ride height. 2006-2009 Mercedes Benz E350 (RWD Wagon) O-rings- although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system.
Suspension Failure Signs
Keep an eye out for these commonly seen signs of a failed or leaking air suspension system on your 2006-2009 Mercedes-Benz E350. If you notice any of them occurring in your vehicle, you will want to get it checked out and fixed if necessary. Catching an air suspension issue before total failure sets in is key if you want to prolong the life of the vehicle. The most noticeable sign is a sudden uneven height difference between different sides of the E350. The rear end may be sagging while the front end may remain inflated or vice versa. Sometimes there is a slight lean from one side to the other- or maybe this lean is very pronounced. Does the vehicle look like it's squatting down low to the ground? Slammed down onto the ground? If there is any indication that the E350 cannot reach and maintain its appropriate ride height, that's a red flag. Look for an illuminated suspension warning light or message on the instrument panel. Furthermore, listen to the air compressor for signs that it has stopped working or is running too often (will be very loud and noisy). A bad suspension can cause other vehicle components to wear out in turn.
OEM Replacement Cost
'+ Front Air Strut Assemblies ($1,240/strut) ) + Rear Electronic Shocks ($180/shock) + Rear Air Spring ($380/spring) + Air Compressor Assembly ($740) = Over $4,300 (and that doesn't even include replacing electronic components that are known to fail such as the height sensors).
Aftermarket Replacement Cost
SOME PARTS UNAVAILABLE!
In order for the air suspension system on the Benz E350 to continue working properly, each part has to function in sync. The air suspension system is comprised of a wide array of assorted parts that are very costly to repair or replace. We knew there had to be an affordable and high-quality alternative to a repair at the dealership. We created our air to non-air suspension conversion kits to fill this void in the market. This kit includes two new pre-assembled front coil-over struts, two new cold wound premium steel coil springs with mounts, and two passive hydraulic fluid and gas shocks for the rear end of the E350. DIYers love the kit because it is installed easily in about one hour per wheel with the help of complete installation instructions. It saves time, frustration, and a ton of money. In fact, the huge difference in cost is what convinces most of our satisfied customers to convert when choosing an air vs non-air suspension system. Let's compare three different costs so you can see how much you can save: the cost of repairing your air suspension system at the Mercedes-Benz dealer, the cost of installing aftermarket air suspension parts on your E350 piece-by-piece, and finally the price of getting rid of the faulty air ride headache forever and installing a Strutmasters coil-over suspension conversion kit today.
